Fresh-smelling laundry shouldn't depend on covering up what's underneath.
Here's the thing about laundry odors: they usually come from what's left behind. Body oils and sweat work their way into fabric, and if washing doesn't fully remove them, the smell returns — no matter how fresh the clothes seemed coming out of the wash.
How the industry tackles odor
Across the category, detergents take a few different approaches to odor:

Masking with fragrance. The most common method: add scent to cover the smell. It works for a while, but as the fragrance fades, the original odor can resurface — because the cause was never removed.
Neutralizing odor molecules. Some formulas include ingredients that react with odor molecules to change their structure, reducing the smell rather than just covering it.
Capturing odor molecules. Others use ingredients designed to trap odor molecules so they aren't released back onto the fabric.
Targeting bacteria. Because bacteria in sweat and moisture contribute to odor, some detergents are formulated with antibacterial agents to address that source.

Each has its logic — but they answer the same question differently: cover the smell, or remove what's behind it?
Our approach: remove the source
At Orange House, we start one step earlier — with the oily residue itself. Much of what holds odor in fabric is body oil and sweat, and that's exactly where orange oil does its work. Oil dissolves oil: orange oil breaks down the oily residues that trap odor, and our plant-based surfactant system carries them away in the rinse.
When the residue is gone, the odor doesn't have much to hold onto. You're not covering a smell — you've cleaned out its source.
A fresh scent, not a cover-up
Our formulas do carry a light, natural freshness — but it's there to be pleasant, not to paper over something still in the fabric. Get the cleaning right, and freshness takes care of itself.
That's what "clean" should mean: not a scent sitting on top of the problem, but clothes that are genuinely fresh because the odor is actually gone.
