In our first article, we looked at how orange oil dissolves grease — oil fighting oil. It's what makes orange oil such an effective natural degreaser. But real-life messes aren't only greasy. A single countertop might have cooking oil, dried food, fingerprints, and everyday grime, all at once — some of it oil-based, some of it water-based.

So how does an orange oil cleaner handle all of it? The answer is in how we build the formula around it.

Orange oil's strength — and where it needs a partner

Orange oil excels at what it's built for: dissolving grease and oily residue. But oily soils are only half of a typical mess. Sugars, salts, and food residue dissolve in water, not oil. To clean a real surface completely, orange oil needs a way to reach the water-based dirt too.

How the formula extends orange oil's reach

This is where formulation comes in. We pair orange oil with a carefully chosen, plant-based surfactant system — molecules with two ends: one attracted to oil, one attracted to water. In the wash, they arrange themselves around droplets of loosened dirt, oil-loving end in, water-loving end out, forming tiny spheres that surround each particle of grease or grime.

Once surrounded, the dirt lifts off the surface and stays held in the water, rinsing cleanly away instead of settling back down. Orange oil dissolves the greasy part; the plant-based surfactant system helps carry all of it away. Together, they let a single plant-based formula clean across the whole home — not just the greasy corners of it.

Getting the balance right

The real work is in the pairing. Too little support and the formula can't handle water-based mess; too much and it stops feeling gentle.
